- At the Energy Efficiency Centre we only install quality products that are proven in our climate
- We prefer to use German products as they are superior to new Chinese products
- All solar panels have different efficiency/output. Buying the system with the most efficient panels will save you / make you many thousands of dollars over the years
- If you choose to purchase a smaller system than you currently need, then ensure it can be expanded. Most systems in SA can not be expanded without replacing the inverter which is very expensive

What if the sun isn't shining?
All Rheem solar water heaters are fitted with a gas or electric booster. This means you can enjoy hot water when you want it, even on overcast days or at night.

Costs & Government Rebates
A Rheem hot water heater can cost between $2,600 and $4,600 fully installed, depending on the hot water rebates and incentives which may be applicable to the installation. Conditions apply.
Rheem hot water heaters qualify for RECs. These are incentives designed to encourage the displacement of energy produced by non-renewable sources. The financial benefit of RECs varies depending on the Rheem model and your climate zone but is worth over $1000 on our most popular models.

Installation
Your unit will be installed by Rheem staff who know the product intimately and take great pride in a quality installation.
Product Warranties
Your Rheem Solar hot water heater will be covered by a factory warranty and serviced by Rheem staff. Unlike imported brands, you will have the full support of trained professionals backed by the factory.
Frost – If you live in a area prone to frost, you must install a unit which is designed to cope with frost. Many imported brands do not cope with frost.
Solar Pool Pump System
A Solar Pump System removes your pool pumping costs completely from your electricity bill. Our 600W DC pool pump and controller are added to your filtration system and a 720W Solar Panel system to your roof so your pool pumping becomes a zero cost powered by the sun!
Benefits of Solar Pool Pump Systems
- Depending on the size of your pool, to run a standard 240 volt AC pump costs around $1,000 in electricity per year and rising!
- A Solar Pump System removes your pool pumping costs completely.
- Our DC pump is installed alongside your current AC pump, so if you still need more pumping power, or need to run your pump at night, simply turn on the pump already installed on your pool for an extra boost.
- Brushless DC motors are nearly twice as efficient as AC motors, which means that the job of filtering with DC power can be achieved with a much smaller motor. A brushless DC motor will also outlast its AC equivalent by 2 to 3 times!
- After 5 years the entire system can be paid off through energy savings and after that it runs for free!

Frequently Asked Questions
What size pools can the system work on?
Our Pool Solar Pump is most efficient on pools up to 104,000 litres. To work out the size of your pool multiply the length by the width by the average depth in metres and then multiply the result by 1000.
For example:
8.5m length x 4.2m width x 1.4m average depth x 1000 = 49,980 litres
Will the system work with my type of filter?
Our Pool Solar Pump works effectively with both cartridge type filters and sand filters. It does not perform well with DE filters.
Will the system work with my type of pool cleaner?
Our Pool Solar Pump works effectively with all types of pool cleaners that operate from the filter box ie kreepy krawly, Polaris, barracuda etc. Underfloor and “pop-up” type pool cleaning systems require peak sunlight and may not work effectively.
Will the system work with my type of chlorinator?
In most cases yes. Most modern chlorinators have a low flow switch that will turn the chlorinator off when the water flow is insufficient and back on again when there is sufficient flow. If you have a timer on your chlorinator controller, you can set it to the following hours:

Can I still manually vacuum my pool?
Yes, but to do this effectively you will need to do it during the peak sunlight hours of the day (generally between 10am and 4pm in summer). Outside of these hours and on heavily clouded days, you simply run your current AC pump that remains installed on your system.
Clean Your Solar Panels
Solar panels collect dust, dirt and bird droppings.
To help maintain maximum power generation your solar panels should be cleaned approximately twice a year.
The Energy Efficiency Centre can clean your panels for you. Contact us by phone or email and we can organise to have someone clean your panels.
Up to 30% of power production can be lost due to dirty panels.
