Solar Power - Great Investment
- Solar power will reduce or eliminate your electricity bills
- Remain unaffected by rising electricity prices
- Many systems will pay for themselves in 5 years or under. This is equivalent to putting your money in the bank and earning 20% tax free!
- Solar power equipment requires minimal up-keep or maintenance. Best to clean the panels once or twice a year
- Increase the value of your property. Buyers are attracted to properties that are energy efficient, meaning cheaper to run
Government rebates
Take advantage of the Government rebates. We will make it simple for you by handling the whole paperwork process.
Warranty
Solar products have warranties ranging between 2 and 25 years.
Important questions you should ask
- How long has the company been in business?
- Is a 25 year warranty worth anything if the company has been in business for 2 years or less?
- Will the company be around to honour your warranty? Probably not!
There are many companies that recently started up to take advantage of the Government subsidies. When the rebates are finished or when the South Australian market is saturated, these companies will move on. Buy wisely, buy from a reputable company with a long history to ensure your warranty is worth more than the paper it is written on.
Make profit from your system
- Sell the excess electricity you generate throughout the day back to the grid at a much higher price than you buy at during the evening
- The larger and more efficient the system the more likely you are to make a profit by putting excess power back into the main grid
- By installing a larger system and making a profit, this can go towards paying gas bills, water rates, telephone bills, council rates. Depending on the size system you have installed you could live bill free!
- Even if you borrow from a bank to finance the solar power installation, you could borrow at below 10% from the bank. Take this cost from the 20% listed above and you could be earning 10% tax free on borrowed money!

Quality is most important
- At the Energy Efficiency Centre we only install quality products that are proven in our climate
- We prefer to use German products as they are superior to new Chinese products
- All solar panels have different efficiency/output. Buying the system with the most efficient panels will save you / make you many thousands of dollars over the years
- If you choose to purchase a smaller system than you currently need, then ensure it can be expanded. Most systems in SA can not be expanded without replacing the inverter which is very expensive
Save money - Extend Your Existing Solar Power System
The State Governments high feed-in-tariff of 50 cents per kWh will end for new customers after 30th September 2011. For those with a solar system installed prior to 30th September your high feed-in-tariff will be locked in until 2028.
However, for those who install from October 1st onwards, your feed-in-tariff will be 22 cents per kWh.
If your current inverter has capacity and you would like to add more panels, then phone or email us with the:
- Brand, wattage and model of panel
- Brand and model of inverter
- Whether you have a tile or iron roof and if its single or 2 storey.
Our staff will calculate what type and how many extra panels you can install.
You may want a larger inverter, or a second inverter to increase the size of your solar power system, we can advise you on your best options.
Clean Your Solar Panels
Solar panels collect dust, dirt and bird droppings.
To help maintain maximum power generation your solar panels should be cleaned approximately twice a year.
The Energy Efficiency Centre can clean your panels for you. Contact us by phone or email and we can organise to have someone clean your panels.

Up to 30% of power production can be lost due to dirty panels.
Federal Government solar rebate drops sharply
The Federal Government solar rebate (STC's) value have dropped by 45% between March and mid June 2011. STC value will go down even further due to over-supply in the market. Another blow to potential buyers is the actual number of STC's per solar installation will drop by 40% in July as the Federal Government fazes out the rebate program. So get in quick.
